The 2010 SARA Drill was conducted at the Western Westmoreland Municipal Authority Waste Water Treatment Plant in North Huntingdon Township. Agencies involved included PA Region 13, WCDPS, NHT Rescue 8, Stations 1,4,8,12, North Huntingdon Emergency Management.
Many dedicated volunteers sacrificed their time (forgoing the Penguin Playoff game) to come out and provide a substantial component to the exercise. Incident command, staging, identification of safety zones, evacuation simulation, facility emergency activation and full call down of agencies required by DEP, decontamination, full HAZMAT entry and site safety plans were implemented.
The Entry Team conducted tactical operations in record time under the simulated fog used within the chemical area. The Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP) components were used with evaluations performed on HAZMAT response, Responder Safety and Health, Onsite Incident Management, and Triage and Treatment.
Please review past exercise After Action Reports (AAR) and check back to the site for the AAR in the coming weeks to view the lessons learned and best practices shown for this years exercise.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE PARTICIPANTS especially Stations 1,4,8,12, Rescue 8, Mark Taylor, Jason Stegman, Chris Price, Bill Hobaugh, Rod Mahinske, Chuck Geis, Gene Komondor, Kevin Fisher, and Chief Herman Sieber.
